I worked most of the morning in my rather depressing room at the Motel 6, but as soon as I got to a good stopping point, I beat a path out of town, but not before an early lunch at In-N-Out Burger and a visit to Target to restock my water and caffeine supplies, en route to Medford, Oregon.
What the relatively short drive taught me is that I HATE driving through mountains. The rapid changes in altitude are wreaking havoc on my sinuses.
A little over two hours later, I arrived in Medford. From what I can tell, there is no good reason for Medford to exist. It’s as though someone bought the homogenization package from some developer—Barnes & Noble? Check. Circuit City? Check. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. The only good thing about it, though, is that I’m almost guaranteed to find a WiFi hotspot anywhere there’s a Starbucks, so it’s not all bad.
My only goals for the day were to finish my freelance project, watch Barack Obama’s acceptance speech, and do my laundry, all three of which were complete by 12:40AM, so the day goes in the “Win” column. Next stop: Portland, Oregon.
(Where’s the rest, you say? I’m a little tourist-ed out. I haven’t been as in awe of nature as I was at Arches National Park in a couple days, and I’m ready for human companionship and activities that don’t involve looking at rocks, that’s all. I’ll be back to it soon enough. Otherwise, do you really want to hear about the mediocre pizza I had in Redding, or the sandwich I had while I watched Obama’s speech, or the cushy Fairfield Inn I stayed in? Didn’t think so. I’ll be back to the fun stuff soon enough. I mounted the camcorder on my dash and shot some of the drive through the mountains on the way to Medford that I need to edit a bit before posting, but it’s a little eye candy, and I like it.)
