Preparing for The Big Trip

I’ve delayed the start of my trip by a day. My last day on the job was Monday, and I needed a day to unwind and collect my thoughts before I could seriously consider packing everything I’d need into the car for a trip that could last more than a month.

I’m using a Dash Express GPS for navigation, and to power the Dipity timeline/map on the front page of the site. I’m shooting video with a Panasonic HDC-SD9, and using a Nikon D200 for still photography, and a Zoom H2 for audio recording.

So, the trip starts Thursday, when I head to St. Louis. I plan on stopping at Mario’s in Greenville, Ill., for pizza, because it’s been recommended to me.

Thanks for coming along for the ride.

The Dash Express is kinda great, but not without its flaws. For instance, it's telling me it can't search along a route because there is no route. But there is. I'm confused.

The plan is to go until I run out of money, basically. I'm heading to St. Louis today, Denver via KC, then Albuquerque, Tucson, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle before heading back east. Then it's the Great Lakes, or at least Minneapolis, Milwaukee and Chicago before heading home for a couple days, then following the Mississippi to New Orleans, east around Florida, and up the coast to New York and beyond.

That Dash Express looks pretty nifty. Why didn't I buy one of those? I love my Garmin, and the funny way that the but the traffic service is worthless. I'm not even going to renew the subscription when the 90-day trial runs out.

So has the East Coast been crossed off your itinerary? We have better pizza than you'll get in Greenville, IL. :-)

    Mario's is awesome!
  • Jason,

    Tom Jones?

    Dewd!

Bon voyage. Travel safe, well, and happy. At least ABG isn't threatening to take you to court to get back their money.
